10 Questions for La Gorda

1. Describe your band in 3 words.

Dawn: The Fat Girl

Amber: The Fat Bitch.

2. Describe your songwriting process. Do you start with lyrics or with the music?

Dawn: Here's the basic La Gorda songwriting process: One of us comes up with an idea, either lyrics or music. We decide to get together and try to solidify the idea. Someone gets lost along the way, and stops for Fritos and ice cream. One or more of us will hate what we've come up with, causing us to abandon our progress thus far. Marcia's cat takes a crap on Amber's shirt. Repeat about 5 1/2 times, until my verbally abusive sense of humor makes Amber cry and Marcia calls us all fat. Then we call it a day and go stuff ourselves with chili dogs and nachos at Hard Times and talk about sex. Somehow we manage to come up with new songs every now and then.

Amber: I like nachos. I like sex. Sometimes, Dawn hits me.

Dawn: Only coz I love you baby.

3. Are there any subjects you wouldn't sing about?

Dawn: Not really, seeing that we've covered quite a range thus far... We have however imposed a strict limit on the number of "baby baby"s Amber is allowed to use in her lyrics.

Amber: But why baby why?

4. Is DC a good town to start a band in?

Dawn: I don't really know coz I've never been in a band elsewhere. People bitch a lot about how DC isn't as cool as other cities and what have you, but I've had a good time. Even if it isn't as music-friendly as other places, it's not like we're stranded in the tundra, people. The apparent mecca of NYC is but a scant few hours away.

Amber: It's a GREAT town to start a band in. If you can't represent DC, move somewhere pussies play music like Orlando. Or Jacksonville.

5. What "big time" national band would you most like to tour with?

Amber: OBVIOUSLY Earth, Wind & Fire.

Dawn: Or Phil Collins. Maybe even Journey. Steve Perry makes me moist.

Amber: Do you remember that one time when Phil Collins saw that guy drown that guy in that swimming pool?

Dawn: Shut up, Amber.

Amber: Why, baby, why?

6. Is it possible to successfully manage a domesticated, responsible lifestyle and still be in a Rock band?

Dawn: Even without my rock band I'm incapable of managing a domesticated, responsible lifestyle. But hey, it's a good excuse, and i'm gonna start using it.

Amber: Throw in a little promiscuous sex, and I think it's very possible.

7. What can people expect at one of your shows?

Dawn: A lot of growling from Miss Marcia.

Amber: We go to shows to have a good time, to listen to the other bands and to just - play. I hope the fact that we really want to be there, really want to be playing music together... I hope that comes out in our performances.

8. What's the most important thing a good Rock band does?

Dawn: I'll tell you what they don't do: Sing-alongs at the Grammys.

Amber: Nobody wants to play with an asshole. I think a truly good rock band realizes that, and acts accordingly.

9. If you could change one thing about the world what would it be?

Dawn: Fewer idiots.

Amber: Pretty boys would be good for more than one thing. Like maybe doing laundry. Oh yeah, and men would have periods.

10. Do you dance to remember, or do you dance to forget?

Dawn: We dance coz we want to, and we leave your friends behind, coz your friends don't dance and since they don't dance they're no friends of mine!

Amber: Everybody look at your hands!
