Do you like heavy music?  Do you like melodic music with keyboards?  Do you like bands from Pennsylvania?  Do you like quartets?

If you answered yes to these questions you should definitely check out SPINEBELT.  I did. I even got to talk to them and record the conversation.  Then I typed it up.  Here it is...

 John K- Drums

Bill Atkinson- Bass/Vocals

Butch Lloyd- Guitar/Lead Vocals

Philip Dragon- Keyboards

How do you guys describe your music?

Bill- Where our music is melodic it's really melodic, when it's heavy it's really heavy.  A lot of bands don't like to go too far one way or too far the other way.  We kind of cover both ends of the spectrum.

You guys have been playing a bunch of shows lately, what's the craziest thing that's happened lately?

John- My wife is [real close] to being in labor and we're here in Virginia.  Our van burned a couple years ago.

What do you guys think of the DC scene?

John- Considering where we come from, it's better than what we know.

Bill- So far so good.

Butch- We have a decent amount of bands come up and play with us in our area and everybody's been really good and we're thankful for the opportunity to come down here and kick everybody's ass on their own turf.  We've played with a large cross-section of bands from Hardcore, to Metal, to more electronic based acts such as 51 Peg, Click, and Imbue.  Everybody's been really receptive to us, I mean solidarity is the key.

You (Butch) are wearing a Misfits shirt.  What do you think of Dr.Chudd, and Michael Graves and all these new Misfits?

Butch- Well none of those guys are with them anymore, right now.  I was a big fan of the American Psycho album and saw them on that tour and it was a great tour, but I'm a total Danzig freak.  The walk among us line-up with Danzig and Arthur Googy on drums is always going to be the best line-up.

[ed.- The best Misfits line-up was actually with Robo on drums and the American Psycho album was a big piece of feces.  Danzig was the Misfits and it's a blasphemy that Jerry is trying to pass off a second rate bunch of hacks as the Misfits!]

When you guys are dead or broken up or whatever, what do you want people to look back and say about your band?

Bill- That we were the Heaviest mother-fuckers ever.

John- We kept things genuine.

Butch- I don't think we ever set out with any kind of agenda.  We just wanted to be pure and real with our music.  Which is why I think we appeal to such a cross-section of fans.  We kicked ass and played every show whether there was one person there or a thousand people there.  We played ever show fucking true and pure and totally kicked ass.

What are your goals for the future?

 Everyone- (in unison) World Domination.

What do you guys like best about being in a Rock n' Roll band?

Butch- Playing, it's all about kicking ass every fucking time...
