Are you ready for a bold statement?  ROCKMASTER GENERAL IS THE BEST DC BAND BY FAR!!  Aggressively playful and poetically inane, RMG is what Rock n Roll should be in my not-so-humble opinion.  All I can say is that everyone who reads this must see them live.  Read this interview really fast and then go buy something RMG related.

What can people expect at a RMG show?

Barclay-  I think of us as being really educated and smart Rock n Roll band that has a lot of paranoid urban tendencies and you can really expect to have fun at our shows.  You can expect danceable rhythms and sing-able melodies.  And more than that, you’ll most likely get laid anytime you come to a show.

Is this your first interview?

 Barclay- It’s our second.

Good answer.  What do you guys offer people that other bands don’t offer them?

 Barclay-  Variety.

Matt- Energy.  A collage of different styles that comes together to be something new and interesting and fun to listen to.

Barclay-  Dogs like our music.  Every dog I’ve ever met likes our music.  And house plants.

Why haven’t you guys moved to LA to try to make it?  Why do you stay here?

Matt- Because we don’t like California.

Barclay- We never play California and we never play Boston.  Write it down.  Fuck California and fuck Boston.

What do you guys think of the national Rock scene?

Barclay-  There’s probably a lot of good stuff going on but the stuff that gets paid to be on corporate radio aside from bands like the White Stripes is fucking awful.  That’s not to say that what’s going on locally in these markets isn’t good.  It just doesn’t get on the radio.  We’re looking forward to getting on the road and finding these people.

What do you think could save music and help out all these wonderful, un-heard of bands out there?

 Barclay-  Us.

Matt-  I think people need a sense of humor.  Just go up [on stage] and just have fun and the crowd will have fun too.  There’s too many people who are just down on everything.

Barclay-  Also stop player hating.  It’s worthwhile to listen to what other bands are doing.  There’s a lot of good bands out there.

Since you’re a music teacher I wanted to ask you,  where do you draw the line between technical prowess and raw soul when writing a song?

Barclay-  You have to have some technical prowess but I don’t think that there is any one formula.  If you can play with your heart and you can play what’s in your soul then you’re going to be good.

What stage in your quest for Rock stardom are you guys at right now?

Matt-  I think it’s looking really good right now.  We’re in contact with two record labels, one big, one small and they’re listening to the demo.

Barclay-  We’re also trying to book a tour, so if there are any booking agents who like our music out there we could really use your help.

What do you want my kids to think about you guys when they find your record in my collection?

Matt-  That we never got any venereal diseases and that we always gave to those who had less than us.
